Relationship Coaching

Relationships have challenged us since we first began. They have caused grief and joy, sadness and delight. Relationships have inspired great works of art and music, they have fuelled the building of new civilisations and the destruction of empires.

So what is it about relationships that is so necessary for our existence? How is it that sometimes we do them destructively and other times brilliantly.

In exploring the myriad of different relationships that exist, we’ll discover what it is that makes any relationship successful and the skills we need to do so.

While there is this underlying truth about all relationships, in each type of relationship – relationships with your lover, friends, parents, children, work colleagues – there are particular needs. How do you listen to your partner when they are distressed or angry? Is is the same way that you would listen at work or would the culture of your workplace require something different?  What do you do when your child pushes the boundaries. Your response would be different to responding to a friend who did the same thing because the requirements of both these relationships are different.

The most important relationship that you can start with is your relationships with yourself. True, there may be those people who do not have a high level of self awareness yet are popular, who can entertain at large gatherings with their wit and humour, who can sway the public with their public speaking skills. There are also people who have both self awareness and popularity.

The most important question to ask yourself is ‘What do you wish for myself?’ When you know yourself reasonably well, then the choices you make will serve you best.

To get started on the skills of knowing yourself better and so relating to people in a positive way, lets start by checking out your needs. To do this, you must have some understanding of your values those beliefs you live by and would die for.
